Alfred Sutter

BJJ Instructor

Rank

Experience
BJJ: since 2003

Experience as a coach
BJJ Instructor: since 2008

Statement

[read more] BJJ is a sport that should be trained by much more people. Not necessarily because of the techniques (throws and submissions), but also because BJJ creates a solid foundation for body awareness and motor activity – which can increase everyone’s quality of life. In the short time that I had the chance to teach our students, I realized that a lot of people have problems with their body awareness. So, by training Jiu-Jitsu, you learn to understand your body better; with each training making you feel a little bit better than you felt before.[/read]

Statement

[read more] Even after so many years of training and coaching BJJ, I still get so happy when I notice how the Frota Team is becoming bigger and bigger. With time, I have learnt that loyalty means so much more than just being a part of the team… Instead, it also means showing respect and being respected, showing empathy and supporting everyone to become the best that they can be.
Our head coach Augusto has instilled those values into all of us as coaches, as well as into our students. So, I try to teach my classes and instill the values into the students in the same way that he does.[/read]

Statement

[read more] I’ve been teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since I was a purple belt. What I found out was that, if you want to get to know someone like a person, one of the best ways of doing so is bringing them to BJJ… Because Jiu-Jitsu has a great way of casting a light on our true personalities. And that is one of the main reasons why I love Jiu-Jitsu.[/read]

Statement

[read more] My father was a teacher his entire life, and so he transferred that love for teaching onto me. When I teach, I always try to find new and more insightful ways to explain a technique, a move, or a concept – an approach which I adapt to the different students that learn Jiu-Jitsu. To their different personalities, different body types, and different levels of physical conditioning.
Thanks to my job, I frequently travel abroad for business. When I do, I always bring a gi with me and try to keep myself active while travelling. Altogether, BJJ has opened up doors for me and, thanks to Professor Augusto Frota, I was always very well-welcomed everywhere I went to. Ultimately, BJJ makes me happy – and I’m blessed to have been given an opportunity to help other people feel that happiness as well. [/read]

One of the most rewarding and motivating things for me as a BJJ coach for kids is seeing our students evolve in positive ways; both on and off the mats.
