Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques. Its roots date back to the Ancient Greece and it combines the elements of many fighting styles into one all-inclusive sport.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a submission-oriented martial art, which was brought in the mid 1900’s from Japan to Brazil. Today, BJJ is one of the fastest-growing martial arts in the world, practiced in the gi (kimono) and in no-gi.
Grappling refers to the techniques, maneuvers, and counters applied against an opponent in order to gain a physical advantage. There is a number of grappling styles around the world, but all of them have one thing in common: absolute dominance on the feet and on the ground.
BJJ FOR KIDS
BJJ is one of the best sports for kids. It develops self-confidence, motor and self-defense skills; and it gives children a chance to spend time in a healthy environment, in which they’ll make friends. At Frota Academy, every child can train BJJ – regardless of his/her previous sport experience.
Muay Thai is recognized as Thailand’s national sport. It combines stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques and is also known as “the art of eight limbs”, because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins.
Boxing is a combat sport in which two people engage in a contest of strength, endurance and will, by throwing punches at each other with gloved hands. The boxing classes at Frota Academy are led by instructors with years worth of fighting and coaching experience.
Wrestling is one of the most important martial arts for MMA, as it dictates whether the fight remains standing or not. It combines grappling techniques such as takedowns, throws, trips, and clinching, and is of the oldest combat sports in the world (dating back 15.000 years).
Our private classes are designed specifically for those who wish to accelerate their progress and learn advanced details at a faster pace than in regular classes. Private classes are constructed around the needs and martial art goals of the individual student.

Yoga is an ancient practice that aims to integrate the body, mind, and spirit. It’s also an effective exercise method that is paired with breath control, and which focuses on body balance, strength, mobility, lengthening – and, ultimately, injury-proofing anyone who practices it.
