MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA, is a combat sport that combines the elements of many different fighting styles into one all-inclusive sport.

Mixed Martial Arts

The roots of mixed martial arts date back to Ancient Greece and the early Olympic sport of Pankration, in which combatants fought each others with very little rules. Fast-forward to the future and since the early 1990’s, MMA has been rapidly gaining popularity in the USA and all around the world. Nowadays, it is often referred to as “the world’s fastest-growing sport”.

And you know what? We can’t wait for you to start training… Because, the moment you step onto the mats for the first time, for your first Frota Academy MMA class, you’ll immediately understand why mixed martial arts are so popular.

The sense of community and work towards a common goal, the sweat and the overcoming of challenges, the feeling of progress in an environment that wants you to become the best version of yourself…

MMA classes structure

MMA classes at the Frota Academy have an 80-20 ratio.

What this means is that, at 80% of MMA classes, you’ll be training martial arts individually – wrestling, striking, and grappling, in a separate manner. Most of your MMA training will be done like this, training specific martial arts.

20% of your MMA classes will be “mixed” classes – wrestling, striking, and grappling all at once.

Why? Because at Frota Academy, we don’t believe that just training in “mixed” classes works well. As a matter of fact, none of the successful MMA athletes train everything at once. Rather, the bulk of their work is found in training martial arts individually and only then adding a mix between them.

This way, at Frota Academy you get both separate/specific martial arts classes and mixed classes. You’ll become a great grappler with the grappling classes. You’ll learn striking with the striking classes. And you’ll become a very good wrestler with the wrestling classes.

Then, you’ll mix it all up in the mixed classes – and become the best possible MMA athlete you can be.
